Workshop Details
The glass-painting workshop is 1 to 2 hours in length depending on the size of the group and all materials will be provided.
Outcome: the kids will learn a new glass-painting technique and get to go home with a painting that appears with a flash photo!
Each kid will use materials from the Light Noise Painting Kit and get descriptions of each piece as follows:
After going through the materials provided, the art instructor will provide instructions and an create an example painting to help each kid understand the process of creating their painting. This workshop has been a delight for kids age 8 to 12 (adults love it too!) and the instructor will take special care with younger students.
The process is very simple and entails dipping the brush in the glue and then dipping into the glass powder before applying the mixture to the canvas surface.
Now that the kids are familiar with the materials and the process they will begin dipping their brushes into the glue and powder and spreading the mixture across the canvas in the form they choose. They will use the head lamp to illuminate their illustrations and the image will begin to take shape.
The instructor will go around the group and offer tips and advice to create the image the kids desire. The painting process is similar to painting with watercolors.
The instructor should also be taking lots of photos and videos (with the flash on) to capture the progress and to tell the story later :)
Depending on the timing and group dynamics the kids can take a break when they are about 75% finished with their painting. The instructor or the assistant will come around to each kid as they reach the completion stage to take a picture with a smartphone. This photograph will give the kids a good idea of the final look of the painting.
The amount of powder-mixture applied to the surface will dictate the level of light in the painting and advanced painters will use this to create shading and more complex surfaces. This will allow them a chance to consider their images and focus on perfecting shapes and shading as they complete the workshop.
Toward the end of the workshop, the instructors will come around and photograph the work of the kids and show them for final approval.
At this point, the instructor is they kid would like to have their painting posted to social media, the post will appear on on the Love Letters 2 Lebanon accounts but will not include any information on the individual artists. This step is at the discretion of the parents prior to the workshop and the kid during the workshop. Some artists will prefer to keep their painting private, which is totally fine :)
Our workshops show kids a whole new way of painting and they get to create an "invisible" painting they can see with a smartphone's flash photo.

We are now raising money to fulfill this promise. Along with the signed flag, we will be spreading the power of art to elevate the voice of the masses. Schools have been forced to close during the revolution, so we will be partnering with local organizations to teach children how to make glass paintings that reveal the messages they want to share with the world.
